Description:
This study is a first in reporting the biocompatibility and immunogenicity properties of a one pot synthesis of gold and silver nanoparticles (Au@UI and Ag@UI) by the macroalgae Ulva Intestinalis (UI). UI aqueous extract, Au@UI, and Ag@UI were obtained under sterile conditions and fully characterized by UV–vis spectroscopy, TEM, HRTEM, STEM and FTIR. Moreover, and also a first, the composition of carbohydrates of UI extract are reported along with the changes observed after nanoparticle synthesis by size exclusion chromatography. This is in order to investigate their possible role in the biosynthetic process. The study confirmed that formation and stabilization of the nanoparticles involve an active role of the polysaccharide fraction, particularly the lighter fraction. The potential toxicity of the samples was evaluated on different cell lines and the hemocompatibility was tested in mouse erythrocytes. In addition …
